We are a worldwide group of volunteers who endeavour to provide
free information about a parish, its people and history,
to assist family historians. We try to collect information about
our ancestors and how they lived, not just about when
they were born, baptised, married, died and were buried.
*An OPC should not be confused with a Parish Council appointed
Clerk (Clerk to the Parish Council).*
1. Each OPC endeavours to collect, collate and compile reference
material for their chosen parish or parishes in the form of
transcripts, extracts, abstracts and indexes of original source
records.
2. Data is collected from as many
sources as can be accessed, including census records, parish
registers, cemetery records and parish histories. The emphasis is on
genealogy, but is not limited to that alone.
3. Each OPC considers possible copyright, data protection and
privacy issues and, to the best of his/her ability, avoids the
misuse of data.
4. All information is provided to researchers on the
understanding any transcripts are, at best, a secondary source and
only a guide. As errors may occur, original documents should always
be checked.
5. An OPC aims to distribute material free of charge and
will never ask a researcher for a fee or donation. That distribution
can include publishing to a website.
